BIRTH OF EDNA ROBERTSON

It was during the latter stages of the war that Edna May ROBERTSON (pictured on the right) was born in Sydney, NSW.

Edna married Cecil WEST (MICHAEL O’KEEFE’S GRANDSON).

Edna’s parents were David John Williamson ROBERTSON (Jnr.) (pictured on the right) and Robertina May (nee CROSS).

At the time of her birth, Edna’s parents lived at 430 Old South Head Road, Bondi Junction, Sydney and her father was a grocer.

ROBERTSON FAMILY - PAISLEY, SCOTLAND

Edna’s father, David John Williamson Robertson,  was born at Snapper Point (now Mornington), Victoria.

His parents were David John ROBERTSON (Snr.) and Mary YULL.

David Robertson (Snr.) was born in Paisley, Scotland and his parents were William ROBERTSON (a mechanic) and Agnes KNOX. David Robertson (Snr) died at Mornington, Victoria and was buried in the Mornington Cemetery.

Paisley, Scotland is a river port in Renfrewshire, situated on the Cart River, seven miles south-west of Glascow.

It is municipal and parliamentary burgh, which is most noted for the “Paisley” patterned shawls, based on Kashmiri designs, which were the height of European fashion for much of the 19th Century.

YULL (YULE)  FAMILY - ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND

Mary YULL was born in New Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Her parents were William YULL, (a farmer) and Ann TAYLOR. Williams’s parents were Alexander Yull (Yule) and Agnes WYNESS.  William and Agnes had at least 4 children: Agnes born 1777 who married George LEASK; Alexander born 1782 who married Isobel WYNESS; Jean who first married George LOW, then married Alexander CANTLY and William born 1791 who married Ann TAYLOR.

William YULL and Ann TAYLOR had seven children:

Ann born 1820 who married William ABEL; Agnes born 1822 who married John BRUCE; William born 1824; Mary born 1826 who married David Robertson; George born 1828 who married Mary WATT; John Sharp born 1829 who married Jane RETTIE and Elizabeth born 1831.

Aberdeen, Scotland is a royal burgh, a port and is the capital of Aberdeenshire. It is situated on the coast of the North Sea between the mouths of the Don and Dee rivers, 130 miles (208kms) north east of Edinburgh. It is the fourth largest city in Scotland and is the chief seaport of northern Scotland.

MARRIAGE OF DAVID ROBERTSON (Snr.) and MARY YULL

David ROBERTSON (Snr.) and Mary YULL were married at East St.Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria in the house of Phipps Turnbull, Esq.

The wedding was performed by Irving Hetherington, according to the rites of the Presbyterian Church.

At the time of the wedding, David, aged 34 years was a labourer and lived at Snapper Point, Victoria.

Mary was a servant, aged 39 years and lived at Cintra, Victoria.

DAVID ROBERTSON’S (Jnr.) FIRST MARRIAGE

David John Williamson Robertson (Jnr.) was first married to Marnia Jeniva CAREY at Moor Street, Fitzroy, Victoria.

David was 28 years of age at the time of his marriage and he was a carter. living at Mornington, Victoria.

Marnia was aged 23 years and was an assistant, living at Nott Street, Port Melbourne.

Marnia’s parents were Robert CAREY (a bootmaker) and Catherine (nee GRAHAM).

Some time after Marnia died, David moved to Murwillumbah on the far north coast of New South Wales where he worked as a grocer.

DAVID ROBERTSON’S (Jnr.) SECOND MARRIAGEMethodist Church, Murwillimbah, NSW.

David married Robertina May CROSS at the Methodist Church, Murwillumbah, NSW.

Robertina needed the consent of the Guardian of Minors, as she was under 21 years of age and her parents (Richard CROSS) and (Mary Ann  MOSSMAN) were living in Queensland.

At the time of her marriage, Robertina listed her usual occupation as domestic duties. The witnesses at the wedding were J.Stewart and E.E.Rickstone.

WILLIAM ROBERTSON’S MARRIAGE

William Robertson was born 20 March 1872 at Snapper Point (now Mornington) Victoria, Aust. and he married Minnie Grace MENERE in 1901.

Minnie Menere’s parents were Henri William MENERE born in 1844 in Dundalk, Ireland and Evelina BENSON born 1847 in Portland Bay, Victoria.  Henri and Evelina had 8 children: Eva born 1868; Alice born 1879; Minnie born 1873; Aubrey born 1876; Helena born 1878; Herbert born 1881; Gordon born 1886 and Ettie born 1891.
