Future Events: 23rd Nov Great Bike Ride - Phil, Chris and Erin. 30th Nov Left bank Triathlon - Mylene. 30th Nov Deepwater point run 16k - Janet. 7th Dec Busselton Ironman - Gem and Matt. 7th Dec Mosman Park run 8.7k - Anne. Recent results: Gem and myself had a good hit out down at Bunbury. Gem finished it off well with a strong run leg. Chris flew the flag for Pursuit PT at the Hillary's tri. From all reports, he looked comfortable while improving on last years time. Triathlon Pink Mylene had an awesome time completing her first triathlon, bring on the next!! Fremantle Half Marathon Anne ran in pretty tough conditions to finish in just over 2 hours. Well done Anne!! City to Surf Half Marathon Anna-lee finshed the half, which is a great result as she also just completed a trek of the Kokoda trail in PNG. I thought my legs hurt!! 12km Chris and Gem snuck under the hour!! Nice work. 4km Mike, Penny and Dave did their bit for activ by completing the 4k. Kirsty H ran the Joondalup 10k race (17th Aug) in just over the hour mark. Good work in Kirsty's first race after a break. All hail Kirsty and Caine!!! 1.45.56 for her first half marathon. The run to the G in Melbourne on the 22nd of June. Awesome work, proud of ya sis!! Coach Mike's Race Reports Bunbury Classic Olympic Distance I had a head cold all week before the race, so I was well rested by race day. When I woke up I felt pretty good, my cold was the best it had felt all week and I was keen to race and see where I was at. The swim started well, a few went off the front, but I had Bulldog on my left, so I was happy with my position. After rounding the second buoy Matt put in a surge and I lost contact with him and swam on my own for the rest. I felt happy with my swim and was into T1 on 24minutes. A fast transition and I was away. My heart rate settled quickly and I was able to find a good rhythm. I had my power meter turned off and raced on feel today, when I reached T2 I was feeling good and knew I had plenty left in my legs. I was in 7th off the bike and moved quickly into 5th. But then racing with a cold had an effect. I couldn't get enough oxygen in running at threshold. I slowed down and got my breathing under control. I decided to cruise the rest of the run. This is the first time I'd ever done this, but I had an eye on my training for Canberra. Finished in 2.11 in 14th place. Looking back at the race, I shouldn't have raced as my cold is worse. But looking at the splits, I was only a minute behind out of the water and although I didn't know I was in touch at T2. Cool Night Classic 5k I wasn't expecting too much, but was keen to see how I was traveling after a recent break from running. Let a pack of 4 go of from the gun, but wasn't too worried as the two others I thought would win were back with me. I closed the gap to the front pack just after the Swan brewery and settle in to recover from my surge. There were 6 in the pack now, which was a little too many for my liking, so I put in another surge. This thinned it out a little, but prompted Paul Mckay to come through and thin it out a lot. I could hold the pace over the last k and a half and held onto third in a time of 16.09. Great Southern Adventure Race I headed down to Albany with Rob, with Pete and Mick in another car. When we arrived at our accommodation we soon the discovered the power had been cut off!!! The only way is up!! Back to the Albany visitors centre and we ended up in a really nice place on Middleton beach. This little stuff up put us behind a little with prep and it was after mid night when we finally crashed, with most of our planning done. Stage 1 was starting from york street and we could spilt up for this stage, so Mick went up Mt Clarence on his bike, Pete ran along the road to some other check points half way up the hill and I ran along the coastal path. I new all the landmarks and was at middleton beach in just over 30min. Stage 2 had us paddling 17k with the wind at our back. It was quite a nice paddle, great scenery and a couple whales too. Survived the breaking waves and onto the next stage a 17k run. Mick, Rob and myself set out and didn't have too much trouble finding the check points. We did leave the last 2 as we thought they would be too hard to find. Onto the bikes and we were a bit muddy but doing well. The bike leg was 40k but we ended up doing 55k. The ride was basically up to the porongurups which was also into a strong headwind. We made a few errors which cost a bit of time. The shitscared moment of the weekend was when looking up into the trees for a checkpoint in a swampy area, I stepped back and heard a strange noise. When I looked around there was a Tiger Snake in the strike position looking at my leg, which was about a foot away!! Thankfully he didn't strike. By the time we finally finished the ride I had been going for nine and a half hours and was completely stuffed. I enjoyed a break as the rest of the team scaled the porongurups. We weren't going to make the cut off for the final paddle so this last bike ride was to be our last stage for the day. 60k which started with a few tough climbs and then a steep downhill section in the dark (this is when my main light lost charge). When we got to the road we flew with the tale wind and then spent the next few hours lost in farmer's paddocks. We eventually made it out and got to the next transition. We were all fairly stuffed at this stage, then the official said if we still want to be in the race tomorrow we had another 26k ride(I HATE MY BIKE). I had had enough by the time we got back and could have quite easily slept all Sunday. But my team mates got me going and once we were paddling it was ok again. We started the paddle late, which turn out to be a good idea as when we rounded the point (50metres in 10min) we saw the kaos the gail force winds had inflicted. Paddlers were being rescued by other races and there we so many kayaks and skis abandoned on the beach. We walked 5k into the wind dragging our ski's before paddling around the last headland. We also saw 10 to 15 whales on this stage too. I rested the next stage before going for a 14k run, then 35k ride and a 5k run home. Saturday was the hardest day, ironman included!! Was glad to finish, but I can't see myself doing another. We came 9th overall and 5th in our cat. Thanks Rob, Mick and Pete for being great team mates and Helen, EB and Erica for great support over the weekend. City to Surf Half Marathon Felt pretty comfortable as the gun went off and found my rythem quickly. Four runners moved away before the first hill and another 3 moved away from me on the first hill. I decided to let them go and hope they would come back later in the race. Felt ok as I entered Kings park, but was 50m back of the 2nd group. I tried to close the gap on the downhill, but it had little effect. Leaving Kings Park was good as I was finally heading for the beach. There was no one near by so it was a case of racing the clock again. Went through 10k in 35.24 and 15k in 52.30. Heading through Perry Lakes I could feel my left ITB tightening and had a bit of pain going up the last hill, but managed to keep the pace high. Ran the final 1.1k in 3.37 and was stunned by my time 1.14.38. I was aiming for 1.17 on this hilly course. Conditions were pretty good, which helped. Perth Half Marathon A horrible day on Saturday for running, wet and windy. I personally love a good storm and it seems I'm not alone as there was a big turn out. It was my first straight up half marathon so wasn't sure what to expect. The pace was fairly consistent throughout and ended up in 3rd place in 1.17.01, happy days. Thanks to the volunteers, it was a tough day for them too. Busselton Half Ironman 08 I was really looking forward to this race after a disappointing season so far, but still a little nervous since I hadn't raced for 7 weeks. The swim started with a laugh as the pro field all false started as they tested the buzzer. When we got underway I settled into a pack quite comfortably, but messed up 800 metres into swim as I let them get away. Got to the beach on my own and was surprised that I hadn't been caught by the wave behind and by the massive crowd at the swim exit. Onto the bike and I didn't feel great and my power output was low, but after ironman I have learnt to be patient and after my heart rate settled down the bike came good and I started picking off the other riders. I had moved into 7th early on the 3rd lap but was worried about my nutrition, as I decided not to pick up another bidon on the last lap. Into T2 and my left quad cramped, just like last year. Started cursing myself as I ran off while looking for some salt tabs in my fuel belt. Noticed I had about a minute over Lajos and was worried as I wasn't feeling great. I got through 4 salt tabs and 500ml of electrolytes in an attempt to keep from cramping in the first half of the run. Glanced at my watch, 43min for 10.5km was 4 minutes slower than I was aiming for, but I was starting to feel better. Heading back through the crowd I was feeling really good and running fast, but heard Lajos was still running me down. I felt like I was getting stronger as the race went on and negative spilted a run leg for the first time. Finished in 4.06.41 and 6th place. 	A big congrats to Rach and Dave. Lil Angus was born in the early hours of Wednesday the 8th. Their first and Pursuit PT's first aswell.
