About Mukinbudin

The shire of Mukinbudin is comprised of an area totaling 3414 square kilometers with a total population of 820. The townsite isMukinbudin Shire Logo situated 295 kms North-East of Perth.

Mukinbudin was gazetted in 1922, with the first Road Board forming in 1933. The aboriginal name of "Mukinbudin" is purported to mean "place of the boodie rats nest".

The main industry of the area is agriculture - wheat, sheep, pigs plus a few diverse farming practices including ostrich farming and Aquaculture. Co-operative Bulk Handling is situated on the North/Eastern side of town and last season's intake from the Mukinbudin area was in approximately a staggering $18,000,000.00

Mukinbudin has a large range of activities, clubs, sports and is well-equipped with services such as a hairdresser, beautician, mechanics, electricians, plumber etc.

Shire OfficesThere are several sporting clubs which provide not only the opportunity for exercise, but also for socialising and making new friends. Mukinbudin is a very close-knit town without being 'cliquey' and new-comers are always appreciated for their added skills, interests and experiences.

Mukinbudin has a wonderful community spirit, which is indicated in the clean surrounds, beautiful gardens and parks, and the drive and commitment of the community members. The Tidy Towns Committee, Shire Council, and Planning & Development Group have initiated several projects around town to ensure that Mukinbudin is a vibrant and happening town. Mukinbudin has won the Tidy Towns Competition 9 times in it's division and in 1994 was the State Winner, representing Western Australia in the National Titles.
