Northampton is an area filled with history and activities for all the family to enjoy. Be sure to stop by the Northampton Visitor Centre for a copy of "The Hampton Road Heritage Walk" to view some of the towns most historic buildings.

When you visit the Northampton Visitor Centre be sure to check out the building. This stone building used to be the Old Police Station and was built in 1882.

If you are travelling in October be sure to be in Northampton for the Airing of the Quilts. This colourful day is held on the second Saturday of October and displays old and new patchwork quilts of all descriptions up and down the main-street. So make a day of it and enjoy the family entertainment, stalls, food and craft, street parade and carnival atmosphere. More>>

In the townsite itself you can step back in time as you enter Chiverton House (c.1895). This stone walled complex has a rich history of owners and uses, including being Northampton's first bank in 1908. Step inside to see artefacts and photographs of our past. For the avid gardeners out there be sure to step outside and view the herbarium of plants of yesteryear. Also outside you will find old restored farm machinery.

In the centre of town you will find Our Lady in Ara Coeli Church (c.1936). This fascinating building was designed by the legendary Monsignor Hawes with some influence from the Parish Priest of the time Father Irwin. This has led to the unusual mix of both Gothic and Byzantine styles which make the Church worth a visit on a tour of the town.

Right next door you will find the Sacred Heart Convent built in 1919 which was also designed by Monsignor Hawes. Nuns from this convent reached far and wide founding convents in Roebourne, Carnarvon, Nanson and Port Hedland. Now operating as the Old Convent budget accommodation and function room and catering facilities are available.

Mary Street Railway Precinct:
The First Public Railway in Western Australia ran from Geraldton to Northampton commencing in 1879. A static display of historic railway memorabilia is now on display at the Northampton Railway Station (circa 1913)
eastern end of Mary St.

If you are taking a break with the kids be sure to stop by the Lions Park behind the Northampton Visitor Centre or ask at the Visitor Centre for the location of one of the towns other parks. Here you will also find public facilities for that much needed rest stop.

If you are after something spectacular between July and December you can't go past the Wildflowers lining the roadsides, paddocks and town verges with spectacular rainbows of astonishing beauty. Oceans of wildflowers line the main road as you come into town and mark your path all the way to Port Gregory and Horrocks.

Between Geraldton and Northampton you will find Oakabella Homestead and Tearooms (c.1860). Be sure to stop by for some homemade culinary delights as well as a wander around the historic homestead, complete with authentic furniture. Don't forget to look for Elephant hill but shhh! don't wake the Elephant!
