10 AMP RACK MOUNT REPEATER POWER SUPPLY
THIS SUPPLY POWERS OUR LOCAL 2 METER REPEATER, VK6RWR.
INCORPORATING A LM396K 10 AMP ADJUSTABLE VOLTAGE REGULATOR AND FIXED 12 VOLT @ 1AMP UNREGULATED AUXILIARY SUPPLY.
This LM396K is a real bastard of a device as it has internal over current and temperature shutdown. (... and so it should, it really needs it) I bet it was an expensive device for who ever purchased it!!! It really is a clever 10 amp regulator but it's all packaged in a single TO-3 case! The problem is, it's a heck of a lot easier to cool 2, 3, 4 or 5 2N3055's in TO-3 cases then one LM396K in just one TO-3 case!!! Built from surplus materials, total cost not including my time.... maybe $20 - 25.
