A 24VDC WIPER MOTOR BEER CAN CRUSHER
THE BAD :(
1] And most importantly.... "This project uses 240 AC mains power!" (only to supply the 240/18 volt transformer)
2] The control box is definitely a bit bulky.
3] It's slow! Even when running the wiper motor in fast speed, it takes about 45 seconds for the ram to extend out, smash a can down to 25mm and retract back and stop.
4] I still need to bend up an aluminum top for the control box.
THE GOOD :)
1] It uses all low voltage 24vdc devices. Relays, proximity switches and the windshield wiper motor.
2] 4 status LED's that indicate where in the crushing cycle the ram is. (that's if you have the patients to watch it)
Top LED........ at reverse limit. (this is the normal starting position)
Second LED... moving forward. (ram extending out)
Third LED...... at forward limit. (can is fully crushed)
Fourth LED.... moving reverse. (ram retracting in)
3] Very reliable, it has never over traveled yet.
4] A big red emergency stop button if anything goes horribly wrong. :(
5] It's all on a 40mm by 40mm by 3mm angle iron frame that sits on the aluminum can barrel. Just press the green start button and walk away. The can will smash and drop into the barrel.
6] Fused on both the 240 AC mains and 24VDC.
7] The motor, ram and linkage components all disassemble, so if it ever over travels and kills itself, I should be able to rebuild it without any problems.
