A Word from John Worsfold
Football has been a major part of my
world for so long that I can not begin to imagine life without it.
As I look back on my playing career I realize how fortunate I have
been to have had such wonderful opportunities that many people,
through no fault of their own, will never have.
I've met, worked with and played with and against, many remarkable
people. I've made great mates, enjoyed tremendous highs, no shortage
of lows and enjoyed fantastic camaraderie.
Whilst there have been many hours
of hard work, sacrifices and disappointments along the way, I
wouldn't trade these times for anything. The honour and elation of
holding up that premiership cup, on two occasions, will always
remain amongst my most treasured memories. Being part of a winning
team is indeed a great feeling. |

But all winning teams rely on
people; people working together and making sacrifices for the common
good. They depend on the contribution of each and every member.
There is great truth to the age old axiom, a chain is only as strong
as it's weakest link. No matter how good the group of individuals,
if they don't function as a tight, cohesive unit, they will always
run second to a good team.
The Axiom Trust is such a team. The vision of the Trust to see
people from all over Australia coming together to reach our and say
"we care", in one in which we can all participate. In doing so we
can all be members of a truly great team. Through the Trust we are
able to help hundreds, if not thousands, of children, adolescents
and adults who require assistance to sustain their quality of life.
Disability makes no distinction for race, colour or creed. It can
occur at any time to anybody and usually has a devastating effect on
the individual and family alike. Without dedicated, caring people,
such as those supported by the Axiom Trust, there would be little
hope. By supporting the Trust to achieve it's vision, you will
become a part of one of the most important teams that I can imagine,
the team of humanity.
In Western Australia we have a fantastic reputation for our
generosity and compassion. For jumping in and doing our bit to help
those in need. This is a reputation in which we can all take great
pride. The mission of the Axiom Trust, to see equality, dignity and
opportunity for people with disabilities, is one in which we can
also take great pride.
I am especially enthusiastic about the concept of the Trust's
Permanent Trust Fund which was established in 1996 to assist in the
long term care and support of these people and their families. I find
it commendable that not one cent of the principal or income from
this fund will be deducted for administration or running costs. This
means that 100% of donations paid into the fund go to work for the
purpose that they were intended. A small, monthly contribution to
the Trust may not seem to be of great significance, but imagine the
effect of 20,000 people giving just a couple of dollars a month. Now
that's the sort of teamwork that really does make a difference.
I am extremely proud to be a part of the Axiom team and encourage
your support and participation to this most worthy cause.
