Western Australia occupies the western third of the Australian
Continent. The Western Australian Government Railways(WAGR) operates an extensive 3'6" gauge railway system covering the south west portion of the state, in addition to the Standard Gauge line connecting Perth to Kalgoorlie and the ex Commonwealth Railways standard gauge line east from Kalgoorlie to the Eastern States. There are also private standard gauge lines servicing the large iron ore mines in the Pilbara Region of the state Links are provided to Australian Railway Historical Society( WA Division) (ARHS) which operates The Rail Transport Museum at Bassendean, a suburb of Perth, and the Australian Model Railway Association ( WA Branch) (AMRA) which has a group for those interested in modelling the WAGR.
