Enabling AGP Fast Writes.

If you have configured the card to use NVidia's AGP support you may wish to enable Fast Writes and Side Band Addressing(SBA). This can be achieved by passing parameters to the modprobe command.

AGP Fast Writes Detail.

You can check whether your card supports Fast Writes and SBA by looking at the proc information under drivers/nvidia. To do so run the following commands.

[robert@eyrie ~]$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x1f000314

[robert@eyrie ~]$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/host-bridge
Host Bridge: PCI device 8086:3340
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x00000314

If this shows support for Fast Writes and SBA then you can enable it by editing /etc/modprobe.conf. Add the following to the end of your modprobe.conf file.

alias char-major-195 nvidia
options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1

Reboot the computer and run the following command to see if Fast Writes has been enabled.

[robert@eyrie ~]$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: NVIDIA
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Enabled
SBA: Enabled
