Fedora Core 2 on a Dell Inspiron 8600
Latest Update -- December 28th 2005
I have done a config file for this and put it here for completeness.
Twinview involves spanning the desktop across two monitors. This does not sound as useful as dual servers in my case with a 1920x1200 laptop display and a 17 inch monitor.
Having tried it in Windows I though it might occasionally be useful. Unfortunately, unlike the Windows driver, the Linux driver uses the attached CRT monitor, instead of the laptop display, as the primary monitor.
Twinview, with the exception of the issue of the primary monitor, turned out to be straight forward. Having spent some time now configuring the screen and reading the README undoubtedly helps.
All I needed to do was backup my current config file and follow the relevant section of the README. Cutting and pasting from the README and then editing gave me the following additions to my device section of the xorg.conf file.
Option "MetaModes" "1024x768, 1920x1200"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "74 - 74"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60.0"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "CRT-0 RightOf DFP-0"
According to the README there are a few benefits to using this method. If you have monitors of similar size it maybe useful. Here is the full xorg.conf file for reference.
