Beyond the Diocese

Anglican Lent Book

Lent book cover

A Spendthrift Lover: the extravagant generosity of God, written by Bp John Parkes, is a 5-session group course based on the 2010 Lenten readings for Year C.

Bp John guides us through the traditional landscape of Lent to the surprising celebration on the other side of Good Friday.

Available from Grassroots Resources Australia: 03 9974 1994.

Responding to the Anglican Communion Covenant

The new Anglican Covenant can be found on The Anglican Communion Official Website.

Thinking Anglicans provides links for various responses to it: www.thinkinganglicans.org.uk/archives/004159.html.

Obviously a cause for much debate, there is an associated thread with over 100 comments debating the merits (or otherwise) of the document.

Welcome to the website of the Diocese of Wangaratta!

Here you will find information about the functioning of the Diocese, including documents and forms for clergy and congregations.
A description of the Diocese can be found on the Parishes page, along with a page for each parish providing details about their church communities, ministry team, services, and organisations.
And on this page you can form an idea about what our current priorities as a Diocese are.

A summary of Bishop John's tasks for this Diocese from his Synod 2009 address

  1. We need to redefine our core business as mission, not maintenance. Every decision we make, every dollar we spend needs to provide an answer to the question: 'How does this advance the mission of the church?'

  2. To achieve this, we must strategise. By the end of this year Bishop-in-Council will have developed a ministry strategy for the Diocese, which will identify key objectives and provide for measurable outcomes.
By Synod next year, I will expect every ministry unit to have developed its own strategic plan, to complement the Diocesan strategy.

  3. I will ask the finance committee to produce a financial strategy to sustain the ministry initiatives identified in the strategic plan.

  4. I have signed up our Diocese to Back to Church Sunday.
  5. We will review our systems of governance, and revise the Parish Administration Act to operate in the 21st century.

  6. I have asked for Cursillo to be introduced into the Diocese.
