Time has preserved for us an ancient
letter* written to a group of people in southern Europe by a well-respected
and much-travelled preacher. The letter talks about the sort of
things that usually destroy relationships and create discord,
and then it goes on to list a set of virtues that, if implemented,
has the potential to revolutionise a community for good.
At the conclusion of the list is
the statement: "Against such things there is no law."
This is a refreshing statement in an age of litigation, because
it gives us free reign to do these things as much as possible
and without restraint - a true statement of freedom. What I find
so exciting about this list of virtues is that it is as timeless
as the land in which we live and as relevant in the 21st century
as it was in the first. I trust these reflections will be to you
as pieces of refreshing fruit in the harshness of life, and will
provide encouragement to search for the true source of the fruit
of the Spirit.

*The letter to the Galatians, written by the Apostle Paul,
is recorded in the Bible.
But
the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
