Until
two or three years ago there was ONLY one hike to do in or around Cusco
and that was the Traditional Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Then... the
government changed the regulations and restricted the amount of people
to go on the Inca Trail. We support the sustainable tourism - but the
impact of this regulation has changed the face of trekking around Cusco
forever.
Routes that until just two years ago were considered way off the beaten track and only for the very adventurous have seen an exponential increase in the number of tourists. This has had its own impact, with unregulated camping and no rules at all in terms of disposal of rubbish or qualification of guides. In a very short time the following treks have become what we have termed "traditional adventure" - they are still out of the way - but its unlikely you will be the only tour group on the trail or in your campsite. In fact, there could be a lot of tents in your campsite at night. These are absolutely great treks - but we don't want to tell you that these routes are untouristed. They have got significant tourist traffic, and this has affected the communities and people along the way. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the people are no longer untouched! These are truly amazing hiking routes!
Most of our tours leave any day you wish because we organise private groups for extremely affordable prices. For organisational reasons, we require one week to organise your booking, prior to departure.
