"The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience. The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him. He goes "sight-seeing." Daniel J. Boorstin

Enjoy the Tropical Inca Trail to Machu Picchu! For this trip we offer hiking and non hiking options, as well as a cycling option! Please click here for the non hiking option! (The Back Door to Machu Picchu) Read on for the cycling option!

A new adventure expedition, The Tropical Inca Trail leads you through beautiful landscapes with impressive panoramic views and a wide variety of flora and fauna. We canalso enjoy a relaxing medicinal bath in Cocalmayu.

FIRST NIGHT: We depart Cusco from the Santiago Terminal at 8pm, traveling to Santa Maria, where we arrive at approximately 4 am.

FIRST DAY: A short time after our early morning arrival, we take a mini bus towards the district of Santa Teresa, a trip of about 3 hours. In Santa Teresa, we will have breakfast, and a rest before heading towards the Hot Springs of Cocalmayu. There, we will have a relaxing and medicinal bath and afterwards lunch. We will either camp at Cocalmayu or in the village of Santa Teresa.

SECOND DAY: After breakfast we start our hike to Aguas Calientes. We follow an easy road for about 6 hours, and then cross the Vilcanota River on a small cable car. We have our boxed lunch at the Hydroelectric Plant. Here, time permitting, we will visit an unrestored small Inca ruin. In the afternoon we take the spectacular train trip from the Hydroelectric Plant to the town of Aguas Calientes. We spend the night at a Hostel in Aguas Calientes.

THIRD DAY: After breakfast we take the bus up to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, where we have a guided visit. You have the option to walk down from Machu Picchu, or to take the bus. (Not included). In the afternoon we will return to Cusco by train.

* You have the option to hike from Santa Maria to Santa Theresa on Day One, thus extending your trip by one day. This is a highly recommended hike, where you climb out of the hot jungle and into the cloud forest.

Cycle option: On day one we will catch a bus to the Abra de Malaga, from where we will cycle down to Santa Maria. This option adds one day to the trip. This road can be compared to the "Worlds Most Dangerous Road" heading to Coroico in Bolivia. It is certainly for those looking for thrills. We have good, reliable bikes and experience in this trip. Please contact us for prices.

"There are two ways to live your life, one is though nothing is a miracle, the other is as if everything is."
