a Cogdenb

The Cogden prefix was originally owned by Mrs Sybil Stewart who took her dog, Rupert of Cogden from Kenya to the United Kingdom. She sent a son and daughter of Rupert (out of two different bitches) to her own daughter, Hazel Adams and her husband Michael who had migrated to Western Australia.

The male was Serengeti Meru (Rupert of Cogden x Kirawa Ambassadress) and the female was Serengeti Chala

(Rupert of Cogden x Trefonnen Galla). Michael and Hazel registered the Serengeti prefix in Perth and produced the first litter of Rhodesian Ridgebacks whelped in Australia in 1967. The only survivor of this litter was Serengeti Simba, the father of our Sikota Spok.

In due course Sybil came to live in Perth herself and revived her Cogden line using Serengeti animals.

Jennifer Newill was a friend of Sybil's and inherited her last remaining bitch, Cogden Garissa (see photo above) following Sybil's death. Jennifer applied for the Cogden prefix to be transferred into her name and bred a litter in her friend's memory.

It was from this litter that the Banks family acquired "Simbatu" aka Ch. Cogden Turkwel CD (Ch. Onitsha Tuan Besar x Cogden Garissa).

Jennifer Newill and Nancy Banks now share the Cogden prefix and, using a Tyandroma bitch who is very closely bred to the oldest bloodlines in Australia, have so far bred three COGDEN litters. Jennifer is pictured here with her three of her four bitches.

'Tana" is from Turkridge Blackfoot x Tyandroma Ceilidh, "Vanda" is Tana's daughter from Breekama Cecil Rhodes and "Gamma" is Simbatu's daughter from Tyandroma Skye.

Here is "Tana"  again with her daughter, "Garissa" (named for her ancesteress),  who has become the latest addition to the Cogden Pack. Unfortunately only one puppy survived from this litter due to an illness which "Tana" experienced. And below is a picture of  "Garissa" six months later. Quite a lot bigger now, isn't she?
