Rat stayed by the gate and crab went inside and chased the pig. He chased the pig away and the pig ran inside their garden. They chased and chased him, and the pig tried to get out. When the pig went to get out rat held him. Rat held him tightly but the pig shook him off, got rid of him and ran away. They had lost the pig and went back to the house.
They were both annoyed and started to argue. They stayed at home and they made something to eat. They ate and went to sleep.
Crab told rat that he would wait by the gate while rate chased pig.
"If we go back to our garden again, and he is still in our garden, you, you go inside and chase him while I wait by the gate."
They went and another pig was there, but not the one they chased away before. It was another pig. It was a much bigger pig than the one they chased away earlier. Now crab said to rat,
"Now you go inside, but I will wait by the gate.
You understand about crab here? (to the audience). You know he had two big claws*. He had two big claws* like this (showing a sign with the thumb)."
Rat went inside and chased the pig, while crab waited at the gate pig ran around, rat chased him, he wanted to try and jump out, but crab grabbed him tightly by the ear.
He bit his ear and they held on strongly. They tied him up. When they finished tying him up, they cut a branch, tied him to the branch and took him away. They took him to the house and left him there.
Now they went and looked for an old woman, a grandmother witch, who was weaving a mat, at the foot of a banyan tree. They discussed asking the old granny witch about giving them a knife to cut it with. Rat said to crab,
"What about we go, and you ask her."
Now crab said to rat,
"I will ask her, are you frightened of her?"
The went close to her and asked,
"Grandmother witch?"
to which she replied
"What do you want?"
Crab spoke and said,
"We just have a small request, we wanted to ask you, if you've got a knife and would give it to us? We will just use it to cut something up."
You know that granny witch, she always wanted something so much. She wanted to eat meat, so now she thought these two must bring some meat. She said to them,
"What are you going to cut with it?"
They replied,
"Just a small thing we've got."
Then she said to them,
"No, I won't give you the knife, but I will cut it for you."
They said that would be alright. They went and granny witch cut the pig up for them. When she had cut it up she gave them the gut, but kept the meat for herself. They left and looked at the gut, but it was full of poo. They said,
"Granny witch has taken all of our good meat."
They were not happy with that. They wailed and then went to see granny whitch and found she had made a fire and cooked their meat in an earth stone oven. After that she was sitting under a banyan tree weaving a mat.
Quickly they dug a hole. They dug a hole down under the ground. They went down the hole and ate granny witch's meat. They ate and ate and finished the meat of granny whitch. Only the bones were left lying around. They started digging again and got out. Granny witch kept weaving until she hungry. She said,
"I'll go and get my meat out."
She went to take her meat out, but found only bones. Only bones were left lying around. She said,
"They have insulted me."
She chased them. She chased them and the two of them ran away, and started making a canoe from the stem of a tarot leaf. They cut down the stem of a tarot leaf and turned it into a canoe, and paddled away in it. They paddled and paddled, then they stopped along way away.
Granny witch chased them until she caught the canoe in the middle of the ocean. She pushed them and the canoe under the water. They went under the water and swam. They swam and dived down, crab went down, but rat kept swimming until he came across a turtle. He said to the turtle,
"Man turtle, can you help me?."
Turtle said,
"Yes, I can help you. Get on me."
Rat climbed on turtle's back and turtle carried him to shore.
The turtle came on to the beach and everyone was looking at the turtle. They caught and held the turtle to eat. They said,
"We will get some food to eat with it and we will come back and eat it in the afternoon."
They tied up the turtle and went back up the hill. After they had disappeared into the garden Mister rat appeared again. When he came closer, he found the turtle tied up, and said to him,
"What are they doing with you?"
and turtle replied,
"They all tied me up and said that they would eat me."
Rat said,
"Aright, you helped me."
He told rat he would return the favour. Then he ate through the rope. He chewed, broke the rope and turtle crawled back to the ocean. That's the end of the story although when the people came back, for they had gone to gather bananas and tapioca, leaves for laplap5, and had gone to make a fire, they found the rope holding the turtle was broken. That's the end of the story.
