The Emus
"Corralyn Emus" was established in 1991.
Emus are farmed for their oil, leather and meat.
The emus are fed on grain (wheat, oats, barley, lupins) grown on the property.
Females lay 20-40 eggs per year from May to October.
The eggs are artificially incubated for eight weeks.
The chicks are brooded with artificial heat for eight weeks, growing rapidly.
The birds reach maturity at 15 months to two years. Each bird produces seven>square feet of leather, five litres of oil and 12 kilograms of meat. Return To Top of Page.
The Emu Oil, Meat and Leather
For thousands of years Australian Aborigines have known of the therapeutic and healing qualities of emu oil. The Corralyn Emu Oil products are a natural development of a very Australian resource, combined with traditional herbal medicine, that benefits all skin conditions. It gives relief from arthritis, joint and muscular aches and sprains, is antiseptic and popular as a massage oil.
Emu meat is tender, lean and healthy. It is high in protein and low in cholesterol and tastes similar to beef. Increasingly it is found on restaurant tables around the world.
The leather is attractive and soft and used in fashions and accessories. The body leather features the feather follicles and the leg leathers are a beautiful contrast of textures.

"Wagin" means "Emu's watering place".
Before the district was settled, Wagin was home to the curious birds. Obviously it's a preferred environment for them.

A pleasant encounter with the national bird of Australia.
"Corralyn" is well known in farming circles for the production of quality stud Corriedale Sheep. Situated just three kilometres North of Wagin W.A., it is now home to a happy population of emus. It is a pleasant two hour drive from Bunbury or two and a half from Perth.
