Rubbish Collection - Domestic

Council contracts out a house to house rubbish collection service. All sulo bins are required to be left within one metre of the kerb with the handles facing the house (ie bin to open to the road) on collection days. Bin lids must be closed. All enquires concerning domestic refuse collection should be directed to Council’s contractor:

Recycling Service

A recycling & pickup service is conducted on every second and fourth Thursday afternoon each month. All plastic containers and glass items must be cleaned and placed in plastic bags or cartons and left where residents would normally leave their rubbish bins for collection.

All papers and cardboard must be bundled or placed in small cartons. Aluminium cans requested to be placed in plastic bags. Farmers may also participate by arrangement with Council’s contractor.

Septic Tanks

The pumping of septic tanks is conducted by local Contractor W & R Pugh by appointment only. Please ring: 98611 097

Chemical Drum Disposal Day

Council no longer receives chemical drums at its refuse site but does provide an opportunity for residents to dispose of their drums by hosting a disposal day at the Council tip. A Chemical Drum shredding machine is hired to assist in the correct disposal of the drums. The disposal day will be advertised in the local paper. Residents are required to triple rinse their chemical drums.

Litter Control

Litter is unsightly and detracts from the image of our Shire. Littering is an offence and incurs large penalties for offences such as transporting an inadequately secured load, dumping of litter and allowing litter to escape from a vehicle.

Refuse Disposal Site

Council operates a landfill disposal site situated 3 kms outside of town on the Katanning Road. The lighting of unauthorised fires at the Wagin Refuse Site is strictly prohibited. Commencing on 1st January 2008 the Wagin Refuse Disposal Facility will be open as follows;

Council will conduct a review of these hours at the March 2008 Ordinary Council meeting and will consider any public feedback that is received.

Littering is an offence. Offenders will be issued infringements and if prosecuted a maximum penalty of $1,000 may apply. To reduce the opportunity of littering, Council will ensure that it has multiple Authorised Officers to enforce the Litter Act 1979 and would welcome community members that would be interested in becoming honorary Authorised Officers.
