Polymer Clay with Melanie Dilday

…And now silver clay too!

Welcome!

My initials are M.A.D…so that’s gotta tell you something about me! Seriously though, I am MAD about clay, all kinds of clay but for the past 7 years I’ve been focussing on polymer clay and more recently still, precious metal clay. Come join me in the gallery and the exhibition sections of this site to view my work. And if you’re mad to try this clay out for yourself, check out the workshop page and come learn with me in gorgeous Mullumbimby (near Byron bay) where my husband (and wonderful cook!) Curtis and I hold 1-day classes and two or three day retreats for individuals and groups.

Biographical Information

Melanie Dilday was born in South Africa in 1958 and moved to Australia in 1964. She worked a number of jobs before she discovered ceramic clay around 1995 during which time she studied at Tafe in wheelwork and dimensional studies. She has exhibited at the Moores Building in Fremantle Western Australia in 1996 and 1997. She has since moved from using ceramic clay to polymer clay ‘because of it’s incredible diversity’ and silver metal clay ‘because it’s the most revolutionary creative material on the market!’ and is currently tutoring and exhibiting in the Byron Bay and general Northern Rivers NSW area. Melanie has taught silver clay and polymer clay techniques privately for 7 years. She has also taught at Tafe colleges in WA and the Fremantle Arts Centre. Australian Beader Magazine (Feb, 2006) featured her polymer clay/silver metal clay earrings when she earned runner up in their Australian Summer Competition, Creative Beading magazine featured a 4-page millefiori tutorial of hers in their 2nd issue and Australian Beading Magazine featured her surface treatment mixed media pillow bead tutorial in June 2008. She has exhibited in the Great Southern Art Trail and at specialty art and bead shops. In 2008, Melanie was delighted to be one of the teachers at the annual five day workshop at the Grafton Artfest’s autumn program where she taught a innovative workshop specializing in combining polymer clay with silver metal clay.
