| York is a
charming and picturesque town, founded in 1831 on the banks of the Avon
River. The first settlers in the area arrived in 1831 and included
such well known Western Australian identities as Rivett Henry Bland and the
Reverend J. B. Wittenoom, but was primarily centred around farmers who
concentrated their efforts on sheep and wheat with the occasional field of
barley. With a population expected to surpass 3556 by the year 2006,
this community has become a thriving centre for business and agricultural
affairs. The York Telecentre itself provides comprehensive services to both the community-at-large and to business owners alike in order to enhance and maintain services essential for our community.
