Tuned Percussion

Musaics stocks new and second hand instruments. All second hand instruments are guaranteed to be in as good if not better playing condition than when new. In replacing for example rubber parts on xylophones and metallophones, I often use better quality materials than used in manufacture. Please contact me if you are after something in particular. As Musaics primary focus is the repair, and sale of tuned percussion I can guarantee that all tuned percussion instruments for sale are also instruments I can service, and supply parts for. Any class room xylophone or metallophone for example can be purchased with complete confidence with regard to its ongoing use, no matter how harsh the class room environment. I can sometimes supply genuine parts, but failing that I can pretty much make anything for these instruments.

I can supply a range of concert and classroom instruments from Korogi, Premier, Saito, Suzuki and Angel.

All prices are inclusive of GST. I am able to organise freight, the cost of which varies with destination. For schools wishing to order, I am able to provide ABN and invoice the school.

Regarding warranties on items listed here, this will vary. All new instruments when indicated as new, are covered by the manufacturers warranty. Any tuned percussion items I have listed as second hand refurbished I guarantee for 3 months, and possibly longer, at my discretion, and depending on the situation. All tuned percussion manufactured by myself I am happy to guarantee for the life of that instrument. This means anything excluding normal wear and tear of normal or extreme usage, and can be taken to include for example changes in tuning of xylophone bars, which I will re tune free of charge for their life. It does not include for example perishing of rubber components, which is part of an instruments wear and maintenance.

Anything needing to be returned will need to be returned to Musaics, at the cost of the purchaser, at which time I will repair, replace or refund as required.

Two Octave Set of Tone Bars

Two octave set of tone bars. Range is G to G2 chromatic. 25 chimes in the set. Including a lot of mallets. This set normally includes only 1 pair of mallets, but I have included around 10 pair as these instruments are normally distributed amongst a group, making 1 pair of mallets very limiting.

Suzuki Soprano Metallophone

Suzuki Alto Metallophone

This metallophone is a conversion of a chromatic extension. It has a range from c to G, so is 1 note short of the standard chromatic range of C to F.

I have made these bars, which are slightly better than the original in terms of sound as I have used slightly thicker material, that is also a different and better sounding alloy. They are however not finished as nicely as the original Suzuki bars, so some bars may look like they have done the rounds of a classroom a little. As the bars I make for Suzuki metallophones are slightly thicker, and made from a stronger alloy, they are able to resist being bent much better than the originals. Suzuki metallophone bars are a bit on the thin side in my view, and I have seen and replaced a number of bent ones (often he result of placing items on top of, or leaning on). Comes with F# and Bb bars and a pair of mallets.

This is a perfect class room instrument for someone looking to maximise their budget, who doesn't mind it looking a bit "home made".

Price $200 (GST inclusive). A Suzki soprano metallophone normally retails for around $425. 5 available.

Suzuki Soprano Metallophone Chromatic Extension

Suzuki Soprano Metallophone Chromatic Extension

This is the extension part that turns a simple diatonic soprano metallophone into a chromatic instrument, allowing one to play in all keys.

I will be converting some of these into standard diatonic soprano metallophones in the near future.

I have 5 available.

Price $100 (GST inclusive), normally retails for $309.

Musaics Orff Style Bass Xylophone

Musaics Orff Bass Xylophone Musaics Orff Bass Xylophone

This classroom xylophone is a full 2 octave instrument with rosewood bars, made right here in Melbourne by myself. This means that all parts, including spare bars etc are easily available. Bars are carefully overtone tuned. The boxes are made from good quality plywood that won't split or de-laminate. I know it looks a little unconventional, but the design is the result of my attempt to make a bass xylophone that is as light as possible. It's not the smallest bass available, after all it is a full 2 octave, but it weighs 13 kg, which I'm pretty sure is the lightest bass around. This I felt to be an important factor if these instruments are to be portable.

Musaics Bass Xylophone is demonstrated in this video. Please open this in a new tab.

Price $850 (GST inclusive), making this the cheapest 2 octave bass xylophone in Australia, as far as I know.

I am also able to provide free of charge a dolly style platform to which the xylophone can be attached. This has two locking castors and 2 free castors. This makes it easy to wheel around, and makes it more stable as the wheels extendend beyond the xylophone.

Suzuki Orff Style Xylopones

Suzuki Orff style Xylopones

The Suzuki classroom xylophone range represents good value for money. Bars are made from good quality African Rosewood (also known as Padouk) and are tuned to a consistently high standard. The boxes are made from chipboard which tends to be a bit heavy, but are generally sturdy. Parts for all Suzuki instruments are generally easily available. This is an instrument for which I can guarantee support and repairs, having repaired hundreds of these over the years.

Timpani Covers

Timpany Cover

Brand New. This cover is 34 inches, or 86 cm wide. It should fit up to a 32 inch timpany, depending on how far the side struts, if there are any, protrude. These have a hard top sewn in but are not padded on the sides. They are easy to store as they fold up very flat, unlike the padded ones, which do provide better protection on the sides, but are difficult to fold up and store. Six of them available.

Deagan Xylophone

Deagan Xylophone Deagan Xylophone

This is a project that is part of the long and growing list of projects that I may never get round to, so, time to clear out.

It's a portable Deagan xylophone, that is in need of some repair to the frame before putting back together. I have had the meatl plates with all the Deagan numbers etc re-chromed, various screws chromed. The orginal screws for the bar supports are also there, in original condition.

The bars have gone about 1/2 of a semitone sharp. Not unusual for bars this old. I am happy to retune them. They are "quint" tuned. I won't go into this aspect of tuning for those who just went "HUH?". Lots of stuff about this on the net.

Price $600 for the lot.

Saito SG100 Glockenspiel Stand

Saito Glockenspiel Stand

There are 2 of these. Model SAC307 and SAC309. Made for the Saito SG100 glockenspiel. The distance between the upright supports is not adjustable, so it fits an 85 cm long glockenspiel type instrument only, unless, of course, one changes the size of the cross members. I may make some adjustable telescopic type cross pieces so that these stands can be used for various instruments.

These are very sturdy stands, on locking castors, and are height adjustable.

The box it is packed in is 84 cm by 57 cm by 20 cm, and weighs 11.3 kg all up.

Price $200 each.

Bass Tone Bars

Bass Tone Bars

These large bass tone bars are pitched in the octave below the bass xylophone, so the low C is 2 octaves below middle The C bar is 75 cm long, so they are quite large, for just one note. I have a these few odd ones, which I made years ago, but have decided not to continue making them, so am wanting to sell these off cheap. I have 2 low C, 1 F, 1 G and 1 higher C (1 octave below middle C. The F bar is currently a metallophone bar, i.e. it's metal. I can easily make a wooden bar to fit this is preferred.

I am able to freight anywhere in Australia. Cost will depend on destination.

Price is $100 each bar.
