Nodewars:FS2 Aftermath
Right. New NW incarnation will
(hopefully) be starting up shortly, under the semi watchful eyes of me and KT
(assuming an0n'll host it for us). It will be based directly off the Freespace
2 storyline - no weird technologies, no unusual ship categories, no new
universe. Just pure FS2.
It will take place 5 years after Capella - the GTVA has
shrunk to a shadow of its former self, now holding onto the very core systems
of Aldebaran, Alpha Centauri, Vasuda,
Beta Aquilae, Delta Serpentis
and Ross 128. They have a nominal presence in Vega also, but Vega is currently
a crossroads system due to several new nodes stabilizing in it, and is heavily
contested. Passing through Vega is, well, iffy, as opposed to passing through
the rest of the GTVA, which requires permission or overwhelming firepower.
The Shivan supernova had an unusual affect on the status of
subspace in GTVA space, stabilizing many nodes that had previously been
incapable of sustaining travel (see Map). These nodes can now be traversed
safely by all Terran and Vasudan ships. (We didn't want to play with [V]'s node
map, but this way you can travel around without neccesarily
going through GTVA territory. Be happy).
Combat: This is where the advantage of being directly based
in FS2 really comes into its own. All combat will be done in FS2 itself. Both
the attacker and defender will supply a list of ships they plan to use (publically), and will send a list of initial ordersto whoever is making the mission (privately). Any
special tactics can be PMed aswell,
but these tactics will be very limited (eg - certain ships can escape when at
less than a given hull percentage, some ships may chose to enter after the main
battle has commenced, etc. The winner, of course, will be the one with ships
left when the other side does not.
Your fleets: Your fleets will largely be made up of FS2 era
ships, of course (Keep in minbd, it is only five years afer
Capella). If you want new ships, there are two conditions.
1. - You'd better have a good reason.
For the record
My nation needs this new class of bomber because, due to our
genocidally anti vasudan
stances, the GTVA refuses to trade with us, and we were unable to procure
bombers from other nations because they are so potentially dangerous. We were
able to construct it because we have access to an old NTF suply
cache, and it will not unbalance the game because it varies against the Zeus
only in being somewhat stronger, but with decreased missile capacity. = Good Reason - Assuming the bomber is, in fact, balanced,
and it complies with rule 2 you'll probably be allowed to use it.
My nation is Vasudan, and vasudans
only have 1 type of cruiser that is any good. We need this new cruiser to
remain competetive in a dangerous galaxy = Alright Reason - This will
depend on the characteristics of the cruiser more than anything, and you
eloquence in explaining how you were able to build it.
I want my natioon to be different,
so I need this new class of Super destroyer = Bad Reason - You wont get it.
2. - You need to provide a balanced, working in game model
that can be installed with one file only (ie. a vp with all necessary maps, models and tbm
files). If it's not in one file, it'll make for messy directoriies
for us, and frankly, that's too much work. KT or I will determine whether it's
balanced or not based on its characteristics and in game performanceand
the various cuts you're willing to take in other areas. NB. You don;t neccesarily
need to create your own ships here - just DL them from HLP, SG or wherever if
you're not mod talented. They also don't neccesarily
need to be good. If you want to create the GTD Great Big Single Texture Cube,
go ahead, so long as it's not unbalanced and you can get it through rule 1.
Otherwise, your fleets should be balanced against the sample
OOBs we'll be providing. Oh, and for he record, the 24 Aeolus thing is
going to be conveniently forgotten - it generally is by campaign makers anyway.
