WordClub - October 2009   Back

What a strange year, we almost forget to have a meeting, then late in October a quickly convened meeting is arranged. Only a handful of members are able to turn up.
To compound the mystery, no photos are taken.

Member Word Meaning
Robin orrery a model of the solar system
Barry irredentist a person advocating the restoration to their country of any territory formerly belonging to it.
Steve C. anamnesis recollection, in particular the remembering of things from a supposed previous existence or in Medicine a patient's account of a medical history.
Simon D. aprosexia an abnormal inability to pay attention, characterised by a near-complete indifference to everything.
Trent avoirdupois a system of weights based on a pound of 16 ounces or 7,000 grains, widely used in English-speaking countries
Andrew T. notgeld special money issued primarily in Germany and Austria to deal with economic crisis situations such as a shortage of small change or hyperinflation.

The words were enough to induce carphology or at least demittence and I came within a tenth part of an Ephah of going in search of Olms. However it was as nothing compared to the plight of the irredentist from the Malvinas who sought to influence Lord Orrery ( of model solar system fame)  to intervene as he would have to overcome the peer's inate aprosexia with a convincing anamnesis or at least  a quantity of notgeld of significant avoirdupois.
